Chappell Roan’s Grammy Performance Was a Pink Pony Fever Dream—And We’re Still Galloping

Last night at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Chappell Roan transformed the stage into a vibrant spectacle with her performance of “Pink Pony Club.” The rising pop sensation delivered a show that was equal parts rodeo and rave, leaving the audience both dazzled and slightly envious of her bedazzled pink ten-gallon hat.

The performance kicked off with Roan perched atop a giant pink pony, surrounded by a troupe of rodeo clowns decked out in denim. As the music swelled, she discarded her hat, revealing a brown leather cowgirl ensemble that screamed “Yeehaw meets Yeezy.” The stage design featured neon signs and billboards, creating a Western-meets-warehouse-party vibe that perfectly complemented the song’s themes of self-discovery and embracing one’s true self.

“Pink Pony Club,” an ode to Roan’s journey of self-discovery in West Hollywood, was a fitting choice for the evening’s theme, which paid tribute to Los Angeles and its resilience following recent wildfires. The audience’s enthusiastic sing-along during the final chorus highlighted the song’s impact and Roan’s rising star power.

Following her performance, Roan took home the Grammy for Best New Artist. In her acceptance speech, she addressed the music industry’s labor practices, advocating for fair wages and healthcare for artists. She shared her personal experience of being signed as a minor and later struggling without job experience or insurance after being dropped by her label.

Chappell Roan’s Grammy debut was a testament to her unique artistry and commitment to authenticity. With performances like this, it’s clear she’s not just riding the pink pony to stardom—she’s leading the whole parade.
